Two hardworking single mums from Swansea got caught up in a drug ring, lured by the promise of easy cash. Rachelle Morgan, 32, and Hayleigh Hutchinson, 30, thought they were on to a good thing — until the feds swooped.
It started with two parcels from the USA, stuffed with cannabis worth £7,670. The United Parcel Service (UPS) tipped off South Wales Police, who set up a sting. When police posing as delivery workers knocked on Morgan's door, she confirmed the packages were hers and got nicked on the spot. Her reaction? "What the f***?"
Phone records showed Morgan was working with Hutchinson, who was arrested the next morning. The court heard that Hutchinson, enrolled at Swansea University, saw it as an easy gig and told Morgan to keep it hush-hush. She even supplied cocaine for a Christmas party, though she claimed no profit from it.
Morgan, with three previous offences, got a 12-month community order and 80 hours of unpaid work. Hutchinson, who had no prior convictions, copped 15 months in prison suspended for 18 months, plus 20 days of rehab. Both are facing a proceeds of crime hearing next month.
