It’s a family business, but not in the way you’d expect, bruv. John O’Sullivan, 40, from Barkway, Hertfordshire, is up on charges for allegedly stealin’ street lamps worth £1 million across Essex, Cambridgeshire, Bedfordshire, Durham, and Hertfordshire. The old man and mum, Richard and Anna O’Sullivan, aged 67 and 66 respectively, are in it too — charged with handlin’ the stolen goods.
John appeared in Stevenage Magistrates’ Court on Wednesday, dressed like he was headin’ to a mates’ BBQ. He confirmed his details but kept schtum about the charges. The judge sent him pack to St Alban’s Crown Court for a proper grilling next month.
The O’Sullivans are accused of makin’ off with Grade II listed 1950s street lamps, known as Richardson Candles, from Cambridge City centre, among other high-profile targets. John was released on bail, but with a strict no-touchin’-street-lights rule, innit.
