The big fish finally got reeled in, mate. Alleged Irish crime boss Daniel Kinahan was extradited from Dubai to Dublin and charged with directing a criminal organisation. The 49-year-old, known for running the Kinahan Organised Crime Group (KOCG), was nabbed in April and has been fighting extradition ever since.
The KOCG is no small-time outfit β it's estimated to be worth over $1.6 billion and linked to drug smuggling, money laundering, and more. The US Treasury slapped sanctions on Kinahan and his family back in 2022, offering a cool $7 million for info leading to their arrest.
Kinahan was charged late Sunday at a special court sitting and remanded in custody. Irish authorities aren't taking any chances; a massive security operation, including armed police and the prison service's new bombproof van, is in place to ensure he doesnβt make a run for it π’.
