Alleged crime boss Daniel Kinahan, 49, finally touched down in Ireland after a decade of luxury in Dubai. The feds nabbed him the second he landed at Baldonnel Airfield and whisked him straight to Portlaoise Prison π.
Dressed in a black tracksuit, Kinahan made his first appearance before the Special Criminal Court, facing charges of running a criminal organisation. When asked about bail, he quipped: "I think we know I won't be getting bail β but thank you so much for explaining that." He's now cooling his heels at Portlaoise, with his next court date set for October.
Portlaoise Prison ain't exactly the Ritz. The joint has an 'ongoing battle' with drugs and contraband, according to criminologist John Cuffee. Last year, drones were a major concern, with over 100 deliveries of drugs, phones, and weapons. Justice Minister Jim O'Callaghan's solution? Swap wire netting for steel πͺ.
Kinahan isn't alone in the slammer. His alleged right-hand man, Sean McGovern, is already inside. The bitter Kinahan-Hutch rivalry has seen plenty of blood spilled over the years, and now the heat's on to keep the peace behind bars. Kinahan's cell block might be a bit more exclusive π, but don't expect five-star treatment β 20 hours a day in his cell is par for the course.
