Daniel Kinahan, 49, made his way to the Special Criminal Court in Dublin in a high-speed Garda convoy after being extradited from Dubai on organised crime charges. The scene outside was pure theatre: crowds gathered, armed GardaΓ on high alert, and two convoys arriving separately at speed π.
Kinahan appeared calm, wearing a black hoodie and sipping water during the brief hearing. He told the court he was βtaken in Dubai and isolated from Friday afternoon,β but decided to proceed with the hearing without a lawyer. When charged with directing a criminal organisation between 2015 and 2017, Kinahan showed no reaction.
Det Sgt Colin Davidson confirmed his arrest at Casement Aerodrome, ensuring Kinahan understood the charges. The judge explained that any bail application would go to the High Court. Kinahan, resigned, said: βI understand. I think we know I wonβt be getting bail, but thank you.β He was remanded in custody and taken to Portlaoise Prison, with his next court appearance set for October 5.
